Tick borne diseases in dogs

There are many diseases transmitted by ticks to dogs.  Most lead to illnesses that if left untreated can become life-threatening.  The most recognized tick-borne disease in our area in Lyme disease.  Others less well known in our area include Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and Rocky Mountian Spotted Fever.  We can test for most of these with a rapid “snap” test during your dogs’ appointment.  As exposure to ticks can occur any time the temperature is at or above 40*F, annual testing and year-round prevention are recommended.  Ask us about testing and preventative treatment at your pets’ annual appointment.
